Each Show Pony starts with a mass-produced base pony that is made of vinyl or PVC. The pony is re-haired with nylon or saran hair in a variety of eye-popping colors. No perfumes or styling products are used. The pony's body may be dyed using fabric dye or the body may be left the original color. Acrylic paints, glitter, crystals and metal findings are used to create symbols, eyes and other embellishments. Apoxy clay (a nearly indestructible substance), plastics, and wire are used to model horns, wings, and accessories which are then painted and sealed with a matte acrylic varnish. Some Show Ponies also sport iPods, corsets, stockings, and other clothing or accessories which are fully removable. These are made of apoxy, vinyl, simulated leather, metal grommets, and fabric.
